Frequently Asked Questions

Nourish:

Q: How does the Badger Creek Ranch Community “nourish” the mind, body, and soul of its members?

A: Through the Badger Creek Ranch Community, we give back to our community by raising funds to donate our grass-fed/grass-finished beef to the food insecure. We also believe in nourishing the whole person by offering personal growth programs and retreats that are based on the natural connection between people and nature. Check out our events for a more in-depth look!

Educate:

Q: How do I apply to be an intern?

A: There is an intern application on the Educate page

Q: How long do internships last?

A: We offer a variety of internships that vary in duration. Our typical intern season is from May 15 - Oct 15 We will work with an individual situation if it seems like a good fit. We also have on-site volunteer positions that can last anywhere from two weeks to two months.

Q:
What types of interns do you accept?

A: We offer internships in regenerative agriculture, farming and livestock care, horsemanship, cooking, and hospitality.

Q:
As an intern, do I get paid?

A: As an intern, you get compensated with free room and board and a share of the tips left by our guests while you are at the ranch.

Q:
What types of things will I learn?

A: That depends on the internship. We will teach you about your field of interest with a “hands-on” approach. You will be working right alongside us as we go about our day on the ranch. If you have a particular thing you would like to learn and experience, please let us know and we will do our best! Also, you will get a chance to learn and practice the “soft skills” that will help you along your chosen path. These include things like how to communicate clearly and concisely with your team, professionalism, initiative, and accountability.

Q:
Can I host my own educational program or retreat at the ranch?

A: Yes, we love to make an alliance with others who can share their knowledge with us!  We are committed to never-ending growth and learning, as well as sharing knowledge and experiences from our community. Reach out, we’d love to hear from you!

Restore:

Q: Can I come out to the ranch and help with regenerative and riparian restoration projects?

A: YES! We love to have folks come out who are interested in working on land and water projects. We feel it is so important to experience the work we are doing, and we welcome you to join us! We have accommodations to stay if you come to one of our programs, projects, or retreats. Check out our events!

Q:
Why do the land and waterways need programs for regeneration and repair? Won’t nature take care of itself?

A: The land has been overgrazed and depleted for many decades by the impact of ranching in ways that did not allow the land to rest, overpopulation of animals, and simple lack of forethought. Through our initiatives, we are replenishing the land with our animals. In addition, we are returning manipulated waterways to their natural state in order to restore the pastures and wetland so that all animals can live in a more balanced and healthier ecosystem. General question

Q: What is “natural horsemanship”?

A: We view our relationship with our horses as just that, a relationship! Natural horsemanship is learning how to communicate with horses the way horses communicate with each other. It’s basically learning a bit of their language and transferring that type of communication to how we handle our horses and how we interact with them, all the way up to riding! We teach our philosophy to our participants — no experience with horses or riding is necessary.

Q: Do I have to ride horses?

A: No! We offer many ways to be involved with projects that do not need to involve the horses. We also offer retreats and programs that are not centered around riding at all. Our aim is to have folks out here on the land to experience a connection with nature in the ways that that work for them.J

Q:
I can’t really get to the ranch much, but I want to be involved. How can I help?

A: There are many ways to volunteer to help us! We love our volunteers and recognize there are many ways to support the work that we are all doing together. Maybe your talents and experience can be of service! If you want to be involved, let’s talk about how you can join us in our mission!! We welcome you! Send us an email at info@bcrcommunity.org and we will be in touch.
